Maritime Book Wedge Mount
This was one of the first object mounts that I designed and 3D printed. It was a simple slanted wedge to support one side of a book for display in the Maritime galleries at the Peabody Essex Museum.
Because the printer I used to print this project, an Ender 3 v2, did not have a print bed large enough to print it in one piece I used an extension in SketchUp to divide the model into four pieces. It also created little dovetail connectors for the pieces to help hold them together.
I was able to treat the printed model very similarly to the replacement stanchions, and I sanded and filled the model after putting it together. I primed it, and painted it the color chose for the gallery, and added a layer of black volara to the surface for the book to rest on, to give it an archival surface to be on and to provide some grip to the object to keep it in place.
