Miele Suction Adapter
While at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, the Collection Maintenance Technicians noted that the Nilfisk vacuums were having issues with powering off. As we went about troubleshooting the issues, it became clear that servicing this brand of vacuum was becoming increasingly difficult in the US.
Since the greater variability with the Nilfisk vacuums made them preferred for use on delicate textiles, versus the Miele brand vacuums also used, I decided to try creating an adapter that would assist in decreasing the suction even further than normally capable.
I created a 3D model that would thread onto the hose for the vacuum, after cutting it, and still connect to the vacuum. I modeled extra vents, and a separate cover that could be swiveled to reveal anywhere from one to five vents to adjust suction. It worked quite well, and created an increased low range of suction quite comparable to the lower end of the Nilkfisk vacuums.
